During the Fall semester of 2021, I worked as a 2D artist, animator, and technical artist for Rat Platter, a game created for the UT Austin 2D Game Development Capstone. Over the course of the semester, I participated in an Agile Scrum methodology with weekly sprints to continuously iterate on art assets, sharing work and receiving feedback from team members. This is a showcase of the character animations and cutscenes I created, with a few process videos in the mix to give insight into how I work.
Cutscenes: These were created in a pipeline from storyboard -> Photoshop sketches -> animatic -> Photoshop illustrations -> Video Editing in After Effects.
Animations: These were created using Photoshop's timeline animation feature. Each chef is modularized into their different body parts (ex: head, body, arms, legs) for easier animations, though many frames were inevitably hand-drawn. For each chef, I animated 6 states to correspond with in-game states, 4 of which also needed animations of the chef in back/side view. The pipeline looked as follows: modular drawings -> sketch -> feedback -> animation. I implemented the animation state trees in Unity for each chef also.
As for the game itself, check it out here: https://eduardomonroy.itch.io/rat-platter
Playable on Mac, Windows, Linux, and Android.
